December Cardiology Appointment

Ammon had a cardiology appointment in December with Dr. P. I'm sure if I had written this right after the appointment you would get all sorts of possibly unnecessary details, but now you get the condensed version :)  He is doing fantastically well!  Much better than expected.  At the last appointment we were discussing him not qualifying for the Fontan (third open heart) and now Dr. P. is thinking of getting things moving for the end of next year sometime (depending on a heart cath in the summer to determine eligibility). It seems like things change every time we go because Ammon always exceeds their expectations. For now he is healthy, stable and growing perfectly! His weight has gone up quite a bit and I really hate that he is two and still on a bottle so we are going to try to ween him and see if he will still take the volume/calories he needs.  So far he is a little resistant to the sippy (only if it has his milk in it, of course), but I think it will go well - can't be any worse than potty training, right? (PLEASE don't pressure me to start that :)

Ammon's sats actually went up a bit, which is really weird, but good! I wonder if it is a combination of growing lungs and shrinking damage area (from the ventilator). Dr. P. didn't really give an explanation, but did say as soon as his oxygen sats begin to drop we will get him in the cath lab and start working toward the surgery.  He feels that maybe Ammon would fare better with the third surgery if he is as healthy as possible going into it. I think that sounds a lot better than waiting until he starts to tank.

We don't go back until April (I couldn't have timed the new baby any better - thank you Heavenly Father!) and we will see if they change everything again at that point :)
