Glasses

I had no idea how blind this kid is.  Okay, not blind, but G's.  Last month we got a letter from the school saying he failed the eye screen.  I took him to the eye doctor thinking he was probably just a goofball at the school and he was just fine.  He's always a goofball.  He was SUPER cute at the eye doctor.  First, I had no idea he knew all of his letters.  And second, instead of saying them he kept making their sounds.  The doctor and I were getting quite a laugh :)

He told me that kids' eyesight doesn't fully develop until around age 8.  His right eye is strong and its at about 40/20 (which is normal for a five year old).  His left eye however, is letting the other eye do all the work and is 70/20.  So when we cover up the right eye suddenly he is blind asa bat!  I really didn't know.

So now he gets to wear an eye patch to keep his right eye from doing all of the work and to strengthen his left eye as its forced to focus.  Dr. Morgan said sometimes it only takes a few months for the bad eye to get stronger and sometimes it takes years.  We'll go see him again in a month.  Also, He gets to wear glasses.  He might not need them in the long run, but for now... this kid can't catch a break :)
