Kylie's Fifth Birthday

Who knew spelling fifth could be so hard??? Kylie had a Barbie and the Diamond Castle Party. She had a Hula party last year with her friends so technically she wasn't supposed to have another friend party this year (generally accepted rules of the neighborhood), but I wanted something fun and stressful to do sooooo I initiated the whole thing. Of course it spun entirely out of control and we ended up with 23 kids at my house - opa. My friend Mary called and asked if she could come help (THANK YOU!) and my poor mom and dad stayed most of the time. My in-laws also wanted to come and help, but since I threw the party together at the last minute, they were unable to - they are probably glad they couldn't because eventually I wore my parents out completely and they left me there alone with all of the kids. Lucklily I am used to having a house full of kids and arranging activities for little ones (thank you babysitting and enrichment nursery). In the end, the kids spent the last 15 minutes or so running amuck. That was my fault. I forgot to put when the party ended on the invitation and so I gave the parents a half hour time frame in which they could pick up their chldren. Of course, they all waited till the last minute..... No worries, I probably would have done the same! We had a great time and I was in surprisingly good spirits when they all finally left!
Ever wonder what your house would look like after 23 kids have been turned loose?
There went the diamond castle.... Clean up is easy when a room full of kids pulls the streamers off of the ceiling for you.

Some of the kids watched Barbie and the Diamond Castle while waiting for their parents to pick them up...

We had a Diamond Castle Treasure hunt. The kids had to follow clues that told the story until eventually they found the Diamond Castle where their treasure was hidden.
Every good treasure hunt needs a troll bridge. Consequently, my parents found out my brother, sister and I used to do this with my mattress when they left us home alone. I hope none of the kids' parents mind that I taught them this little trick...
The loot...

House full of hyper friends!
With my failing memory, I am quite positive I will want to do this again next year...
