Friday was really nice. We sent the kids to their grandma's and went for a drive and then to dinner at Goodwood (John LOVES BBQ). It was really nice to spend time with him :) Saturday we spent most of the day watching conference and then John went to Logan to go to the priesthood session with his dad and brother so the kids and I went to three stores looking for the perfect ingredients to make something yummy for John.
Sunday did not turn out how I planned at all :) The first part was great! The girls set an alarm and woke up early to decorate the house for John. My job was to keep him from going downstairs. We had made some giant polka dots a few days earlier and we all listed all of the things we love about John. Our list looked like this: awesome and fantastic, a good example, plays with us, rides horses with me, makes yummy desserts, blesses us, sweet, funny, good listener, nice, handsome, likes to can yummy food for us, likes to garden, loves sports, spends time with us, hard worker, helps us, thoughtful, hairball, happy, doesn't waste time, takes us places, honest, teaches us new things, testimony, charming, fun, makes yummy breakfast, likes to do yard work and keep our yard clean, prays for us, smart, has integrity, good cook, knows how to fix things, energetic, and likes foot massages.
It was fun to see the girls come up with things they love about their dad and I thought it would be fun for him to be surrounded by those good thoughts all day while we watched conference. Then the girls took it upon themselves to add streamers and things to make it extra special :)
Next we woke him up for a special breakfast and presents! Except, well, he is the expert breakfast maker. At first he hovered a little, but in the end he was full on cooking with me :) At least it didn't end up getting burnt! After the first session I set out to make pies for his party. Except I had chosen new recipies the day before and since I had never made them before it took quite a while and John had to help me because I didn't have enough time. We were still making pies into the second session. Then I kept sneaking away so I could hear conference better and John finished up the baking for me. I know you are not supposed to help make your own birthday dessert, but lucky for me John loves to bake :)
| I can't explain the tape. It must be a father-son thing. |

It seems like every year I come up with a new goal for the next year, except I don't write them down because they should be a secret for John, but bag that, here is my goal: Next year John is not cooking a thing and it will all be yummy and relaxing for him and not burnt. And I am going to take him fishing.
Happy birthday John, love you :)
lol, Matt would be doing most of the cooking here too! happy late birthday to John!
