I was sick on New Year's Eve. So was Ammon and so was Madelyn. It was stinky. But we spent the night doing fun family things and that made it lots better! We played Alhambra with the kids and somewhere in the process Kylie mentioned that her friend's parents had paid her $200 for going an entire year without candy or sweets. "I'd pay you that!" I jokingly said.... and then her wheels started turning. By midnight she and Allie had written up a detailed contract and then she told (not asked) John to hurry and make her pancakes with syrup before the clock struck midnight. And they pigged out on every last piece of junk they could find in the pantry :)
The first week was rough... ROUGH. in fact, they both lost one of their five "free days". And then Kylie decided it wasn't worth it. But John decided he wasn't going to let them give up yet. Because they are learning to choose healthier alternatives, they are realizing that it is not okay to give yourself everything you think you want, and they are learning self control. So we have been extra supportive and have done everything we can to help them find alternatives. I'm excited to see how long this lasts!
