Wednesday was Ammon's first post op appointment. It was a LONG day, but it went really well. After some tests and a quick visit with a cardiologist, he PASSED a swallow study (barely). Yay! At least I think yay - now we get to teach him how to eat like a normal baby. Its more complicated than I thought it would be and will take some time. I kind of like the feeding tube. You just make sure the bag stays full and you don't have to feed him at all really. Lazy me. When I got home from Primary's my head was spinning - I love people who write things down. They moved his NJ to a NG (intestines to stomach) and things are going really well so far. We are still trying to stretch his stomach and see how much he will tolerate and he hasn't thrown up yet so we're good. Yay! He starts the actual bottle this weekend. Funny - the first thing I did when we got home was get the tube caught on his car seat and yank it out. Niiiice. In my defense, it is twice as long as the last one. Luckily, my new visiting teacher is a nurse in a NICU. Does showing someone how to replace their child's feeding tube count for visiting teaching? It should.
This week I have had another crash course in mortal angels. First, my friend, who has so much on her plate that I wouldn't think twice about her completely forgetting that I'm alive, called to offer us her baby's swing just a few hours after ours went berserk. How did she know? Ammon LOVES it! I cannot over-stress the word LOVE. The second day we had it I put him in it for a couple of minutes to go do something and came back to get him out and he threw a fit until I put him back in. ok jose. It has been a life saver since he caught a little cold - sooooooo fussy. Then there are the WONDERFUL people who have watched the girls this week or invited them over to play - such a GIANT stress reliever. Finally, John and I have barely slept at all since Ammon started feeling bad and with all of the doctors appointments this week I have to admit the house has gotten away from me a bit. Today two more angels from my ward decided to serve me. It was perfect timing. Thank you - it was rejuvenating.
Since I was admitted into the hospital on bed rest last October, I have had it in the back of my head that I will re-pay everyone for all the help they have given us. I think I'm in over my head now and cannot possibly pay back everything. No worries, I will still try, but I'm never going to catch up if people don't stop taking care of us.
Suzie...don't worry about "pay it back" you will have a time in your life where you can "pay it forward". This is a time in people's lives where they can pay it forward so just let them! I can guarantee that there will come a time, even though you can't see it right now, that you will have more time and there will be people that really need you. Let us have the chance to serve you right now. You are awesome and amazing...stay strong and don't ever think that you owe people...they are serving you and love doing it!!! CALL ME WHEN YOU NEED HELP!!!
