I am a Spencer. At least that is the name I was given at birth. I am also half Weatherston. I have a touch of Wood and a touch of Murchison in me too. I won't go back any farther than that. Now I am actually a Speth too - as I am officially and eternally half of my husband. My children are half Speth and half Spencer. Come to think of it its kind of silly to guess who they look like because while there are obvious inheritances - the Kerr height, the Weatherston tongue.... they are a mixture of so many generations.
Last weekend I was a Weatherston. We had a reunion for my mom's family. Five of the six siblings were there and a few of their children. Growing up, I used to see my Utah cousins almost every Sunday at my grandma's house. The men would head outside for a competative game of basketball and the women would sit in the house gabbing. The grandkids who weren't old enough to play ran amuck. Once we jumped off of the garage roof - that was fun (and painful).
My Grandpa, Harold Charles Weatherson, went to college and then decided he like farming better. He owned a large dairy in Clearfield. He died when I was six and I only have a couple of memories of him. From what I've heard from cousins and aunts, he was a super great guy who really liked to tease and had a bit of a temper. My Grandma, Athlene Wood, died seven years ago - the year before Kylie was born. She was a couple months shy of 90. Three of her four siblings all lived into their 90s. The thing I remember most about her is that she HAD to look her best - ALWAYS. I think it was a generation thing. And she liked to shop and let me sleep over and made me a bed on her couch. She also loved to watch the Jazz and eat cheetos. John made her blush once - it was funny :)
My cousins are a lot older than me (no offense). My Grandma had all of her kids pretty far apart. First there was my Aunt Janet (we called them Aunt__ and Uncle __ and it feels really weird not to). She and my uncle Jim Barber (and their four kids) lived a good portion of their lives in California. Three years later came my Aunt Dixie who married Jerry Fishburn, had three kids, and lived in Sunset. I think the twins, Nadine and Nancy are five years younger than Dixie. Nadine and Jerry Gas have two kids together and live in Oklahoma. Nancy and Tom Bench had their children during previous marriages and live in Hooper, but we don't see them. My mom came next - I'm not sure how much younger she is - maybe 3 years? She married Don Spencer, had three kids and settled in Syracuse. My uncle Ron came 7 years later. He is maried to Chrissy (who is from England) and they live in Clearfield. My cousins are all over the place and are mostly 7-30 years older than me. They are funny - really - most of them are really funny and easy going. A lot of their kids are married or teenagers.
The reunion was great. I rarely see my cousins anymore so it was fun to catch up a little. I'm hoping I can get pictures of both sides of John and my families by the end of the year so I can put them all together in the next book.
