Actually, its four strikes now. Ammon was strike #1. I was bathing him in his whale bather (which he loves) and thought it would be fun to let him play a little bit because he likes to splash. Then he stood up to try to get the girls' soap. That looked dangerous so I turned him around and told him to sit down thinking he would just slide down the back of the whale (hindsight, I know!) The slide wasn't as smoothly calculated as I planned and well, he hit his eyelid on the side. It was a nice, round, smooth side, but he IS on two blood thinners and so.... he got a nice black eye.
Kylie was next. She was eagerly awaiting some friends who were coming over and I told her to straighten her room. She tripped over something and hit her eye on the edge of the toy box. Black eye #2.
Four days later (after a lot of of joking at the fact that TWO of my kids were injured at the same time) Allie decided to join in the fun. We had just gotten home from somewhere and I went in the laundry room to let Oliver out of his kennel. He shot into the kitchen so I turned around super fast to make sure he made it outside - except unbeknownst to me Allie was standing right behind me and I elbowed her good and hard. She immediately grabbed her eye and doubled over and I thought, "oh stink, nobody is going to believe me". Luckily I had hit her cheekbone right below her eye and it didn't leave a mark.
Even though Allie didn't end up with a black eye, she was milking it for all she could. She walked around with ice on it all night and into the next day. At least she didn't feel left out anymore. Kylie was embarrassed and "annoyed" by all of the questions and Ammon, well, what's one more battle scar?
Then Ammon decided to take another turn. He was sitting on John's lap on the couch - well really he was squirming all around and trying to get down. John set him down and instead of running away, as he most likely intended, he missed his foothold and smacked his cheek on the couch table. Now his black eye extends half way down his face.
I'm sure you have figured out that being the fantastic mother that I am (that was sarcasm) my first thought whenever somebody gets injured is always, "quick, get the camera!" So here you go..
| Right after impact and when wailing had ceased |
| The next morning (she is not balking at the flash) |
| It was swollen shut by lunch. Her teacher made her go to the office all day for ice. |
| Ammon's was hard to see unless he was asleep because it was right in the fold of his eyelid. |
| A black eye shot. |
| Stage three |
| Black eye #2 |
So here is the Edward Fudwupper version of the story - Kylie and Ammon were wrestling and Ammon performed an elbow drop off the coffee table onto Kylie and nailed her right in the eye. This completely mortified Kylie and she went into fight mode and as she swung around to put Ammon in the chicken wing hold she socked him in his eye. Luckily Allie, the referee, rung the bell and called it a draw saving them both from more pain and anguish.
