Friday night I made banana muffins again. I found the recipe on Martha Stewart's web site. There is also a recipe for honey cinnamon frosting - mmmmm!
Saturday morning we loaded up the kids and headed to Francis (or some place slightly South and East of there. I didn't even know there was a canyon there. It was beautiful! We went fishing with John's friend Mike, his wife, Angie, and their four kids at a private (stocked) pond near his parent's home. The girls had a blast and loved the company!
When we were done fishing we decided to drive up the Mirror Lake Highway. When we got to the top we decided to check Ammon's oxygen - then we decided we should have checked it sooner. He needs a lot of oxygen at 10,000 feet. He was super fussy by then so we turned around and headed home. He also had a couple of diapers with bloody stools - really bloody stools. We hit traffic at the summit and it took us an hour and a half to get from the summit (just after Park City) to Lambs Canyon (instead of like 5 minutes) with a screaming baby, a whiny, STARVING four-year-old and two girls who intermittently kept telling us they were carsick. We took the next exit and headed for Immigration canyon. We called Jean on our way about the diaper (mostly because we wanted to, but also because the pediatrician is out for the weekend and it is a daunting task to try to explain to another doc Ammon's entire medical history and even then there is no guarantee that doc will even know what HLHS means).
About 3/4 of the way down Immigration Kylie started complaining that she was hungry. Finally exasperated, she cried, "I am REALLY, REALLY HUNGRY!" Then she threw up. Twice. All over our packed-full van. It stunk. Worse than Ammon's poopy car seat last week. We pulled over and tried to clean it up, but it didn't really work. We took off her pants and made a skirt out of Ammon's airplane blanket. Then we drove to Primary's, dropped John and Ammon off and the girls and I went to try to clean up the throw up.
My wiser, older sister suggested we get kitty litter to help dry out the throw up so we could vacuum it out. We were right by a grocery store - perfect! I took Kylie in the bathroom at the grocery store and soaped her down, bought the kitty litter and poured it all over the van. The girls were hungry, but Kylie wouldn't go anywhere in her airplane skirt and since it was 8:30 pm all of the stores were closed so we headed to Sugar House. Kylie got to see where we used to live - she thinks it is really cool that she is our only child who has lived it Salt Lake.
Next, we stopped at the Children's Place - because it was open. They were having a GREAT sale so we bought both of the girls a skirt, shirt and visor (all for only $25!)
It was sooooo much fun shopping with them! I have been anticipating school shopping for a month already and this didn't help curb my appetite one bit! When I was young shopping for school clothes was the best ever! Last year John didn't have a job so I didn't get to go shopping with the girls - that was REALLY hard for me. I know it sounds dumb, but I just REALLY like to help the girls pick out new clothes and we only do that before school starts, birthdays and Christmas. I CAN'T WAIT until the end of August when I can take them again and make a super fun girls date out of it.
After the girls were all twinned up in their new outfits, we vacuumed out the van, soaped and squirted down what we could at the car wash and headed to the Red Robin on Foothill. John had called while I was trying to clean up the puke and they were not even close to being done and I still had two half-starved girls so we made a date of it. I had a BLAST with them. They are just about the cutest things in the world and I LOVE hanging out with them - just the three of us.
We got to the hospital around 11pm. I hadn't heard from John yet so we took him some dinner and met them in the ER. Ammon was going to be admitted so they were waiting for the doctors to look at the x-ray of his stomach and for his room to be ready. The girls tired out so we left at 11:30.
Its now 24 hours later and I am sitting on my bed at Primary's. It feels oddly familiar. The medical staff thinks that Ammon is allergic to the formula we have been using to fortify the breast milk so we are waiting for a stool sample. If the blood is gone, we will be able to leave tomorrow. If not, they will involve the GI team. No blood, no blood, no blood..... I wish he would just poop already.
