Kindergarten Orientation (luckily Tara remembered her camera!)
Kylie's first day of kindergarten was today - yeah! She had orientation and testing last week and John took her this morning and followed her inside to make sure she could find her class. He was pretty happy to have the opportunity to take her to school on her first day - when he is working he has to miss those monumental occasions. She got lost. Actually they both did. John had never been to the school before and she led him and Isaac (cousin) down the 2nd grade hall and around the library the long way. Maybe she'll make it tomorrow...
I don't understand why some people get so upset when their kids start school. I have been so excited for her to get out and do something producive with her life :) I think she'll meet a lot of great friends (who will actually be her own age) and learn so much! I might be jealous if I didn't remember the grueling 12 years that follow kindergarten.
We were very blessed this year - John's mom and my mom took Kylie shopping for school clothes. We are very, very greatful to have been spared the expense. She had a great time with both of her grandma's and I was very sad to have missed it! But she got to pick out what SHE wanted (she did a great job too) and was spared my trying to coax her into buying what I like. However, I did get to take her shopping for a backpack and I was quite proud of myself for not trying to convince her to buy the Hello Kitty one I wanted (ok I may have made a few suggestions in that direction). Her princess backpack is adorable!
Her favorite part of the day was recess. That's the funnest thing she could remember. She said she met a new friend, but they had recess with the other two classes so she spent the whole time with Brinlee (girl we used to babysit). Apparently they spent the rest of the days learning about the school rules and shapes. I think she had a good day, and she's super curious to find out more about p.e. tomorrow...
Here's some pictures we took this morning before we left - I have no idea who taught her how to pose like that!
Congrats to both you and Kylie's first day of school!!! It is such a big step, into the world, into adventures worth remembering. (I took a picture of John today as his first day of grad school too - should have told him to pose!!) :) So cute! Tell her congrats for me and good job on all the optimism my friend! :) Love ya!
