Extubation #5

So its been two weeks since Ammon's last extubation (already?). The plan has been to fatten him up so they have been shoving the highest amount of calories that they will allow into him. It worked - this morning he weighed over nine pounds!!!!! Hallelujah!

They extubated a little over an hour ago. They gave him some "feel good" drugs this time to help so he didn't get mad and hold his breath - he still got mad. Luckily, John was there and started talking to him and Ammon calmed down pretty quickly. He has a nasal cannula on, but its only set on room air right now. Ammon is laying in the bed, sucking on his binky and drifting off to sleep.... Please pray that it lasts this time!

I can't believe he will be seven weeks old on Wednesday - wow! It has gone by even faster than my hospital stay. Where have the last seven months gone? I barely recall being pregnant at all. This morning as I went flying up the stairs it dawned on me that I was "flying up the stairs" and I was thankful. It feels so good to be able to move my body.

Before he was born, the doctors estimated that Ammon would be in the hospital for four to six weeks. He has now officially beat Allie's stay of six and a half weeks. At this point, I just hope he comes home for a few weeks before the next surgery :) If he keeps growing at this rate, he will outgrow the shunt all too soon!

This picture was two weeks ago right after the last extubation. Most of his scars are mostly if not all the way healed, but you can still kind of see them. For a while it looked like someone peppered him with a shot gun. - I'll try to get a cute picture tomorrow...

  1. He looks (and sounds) like he's getting big. I pray that he stays extubated this time. That would be one less tube to deal with. It's always hard holding a NICU baby. They have so many wires and tubes to deal with. He's a little cutie. He definitely looks all boy. Stay strong. Little Ammon is a fighter. Let us know if you ever need anything.
