The cath went well. (Did I just write that?) This is the first time in our "Primary's" experience I've ever heard a doctor use "it went well" in conjunction with Ammon. The stent was tricky because one of his femoral arteries is already being used and the other was inaccessible. They had to go in through the neck which meant they had to turn a crazy corner and pass through a LONG row of fresh sutures. They were pretty worried that they would tear or pop something, but the sutures held (thank you Dr. Burch). The pictures are amazing. He is now getting blood in his lung and the oxygen he is getting on the vent went from 100% with sat often in the 60s to 50% with sats in the low 70s. Room air is around 21% and sats should be around 80. In other words, Ammon will be fine until the surgery.
They will take him to the OR around 3pm tomorrow. They are going to try their best to fix the aorta without the bypass. If it doesn't work, they will give the bypass a go and see if he can handle it or not. I pray that they will not need the bypass. To keep this post positive, I'll just leave it at that :) The surgeon had two long surgeries today and another one early in the morning - I hope he is used to this crazy schedule.
This morning when we got here no one had anything positive to say - just a lot of "I'm sorry" and "it doesn't look good". No one could figure out what to do. They didn't want to use the stent because they are hard to maintain in infants and require a lot of upkeep becuase they don't grow with the child. We spent most of the morning crying. A primary song that I liked to sing to Ammon at home kept popping in my head,
"My life is a gift. My life has a plan. My life has a purpose, in Heaven it began. My choice was to come to this lovely home on earth..."
We were given a choice as to whether we wanted to come to earth or not and I believe we had an idea of the trials we would face. Ammon chose to come and John and I chose to have him. I'm so thankful for his choice and I'm thankful to be his mom - even if its only going to be for a short time on this earth.
Ammon looks sooooooo much better tonight - Its one more day and I'll take it.
YAY!!!! Good boy :) We will keep praying for you all.
