Sorry I didn't finish the update yesterday - my mom brought the girls to the hospital near the end of the surgery so they could be with us. The surgeon came out around 3:00 pm and took me and John into a private room. It was a long talk, but mostly things went pretty well. He was still really worried about a couple of things - a heart valve that wasn't leaking before started leaking, and the vein he was supposed to use to supply blood to the brain while he worked on the heart was formed differently so he couldn't use it; thus, instead of being without that main vein for 6 minutes, Ammon was without it for 30. He said some surgeons don't use the vein at all, so it should be ok, but we'll have to see.
That's really all I can remember about the report. My parents took the girls up to the playroom for a while to play and do crafts and things (they had a blast). John and I ate while they got Ammon settled in his room and then went back to see him. I'm going to make this part short, because while I was fully expecting all of the tubes and wires and everything else, it was a little different seeing them all attached to this sweet little baby that only came out of my belly 5 days ago. I'm definitely not posting the pictures - it was aweful.
I promised the girls I would stay home and spend some time with them today. They have been passed around too much and its starting to wear on them - especially Allie. Its killing me not to be at the hospital, so I might end up there tonight when John and I can switch off - we'll see. I called and spoke with his nurse this morning and he is still "critical", but he's stable. She said things went relatively well last night and he is off of two of his gazillion medicines. There is a nurse assigned to monitor him 24 hours a day. Its AMAZING how many things they have to check each hour - they never stop checking lines and machines and hardly get enough time to chart what they see. We are hoping if things continue to go well they will be able to close his chest back up in just a couple of days.
I cant imagine the pain of seeing your sweet baby boy hooked up to all those lines and machines and to see him all swollen!! Our prayers are with you Suzi and John! Wishing you guys a wonderful christmas!! Sending you our love and prayers!
