The Next Big Step

First, an update to the fellow's comments about no more surgeries. We spoke with another doctor on Friday about what Terra (the fellow) had told John and she said it was not accurate information. She said Ammon is doing really well for what he's been through and she doesn't see why a leaky valve would prevent any more surgeries. Of course, there is always the risk that it gets worse, and in that case it might be a problem, but it is looking better so far so we should be OK. About a half hour later Terra came in to apologize for the misunderstanding - at least I think she was trying to apologize - it came out as more of an apology by her on behalf of John for misunderstanding. Why can't some people just admit when they make a mistake?

Today was a fun day :) We went to our ward Christmas breakfast and then went down to the hospital to see Ammon. They were supposed to close his chest today, but he is still too edemic (too much fluid on his organs and in his chest). They are going to try tomorrow. Its a short surgery, and not too incredibly risky, but if they can do it and maintain his stats, they will be able to get him off of a ton of medicines this week and maybe even move him upstairs in 7-10 days. (that is the last step before sending him home!) That seems unreal to me. Of course, in our lives (and probably all of yours) things never go as planned so we'll just wait and see :) If he does make it home by the middle of January, he will only be home for 3-4 months and then go back to do it all over again - ugh. Watching him recover from one open heart surgery is plenty - three is going to be a lot.

Anyway John and I took turns in with Ammon while the other one went upstairs to the playroom with the girls. During my turn Kylie and Allie made Ammon some cute picture frames - its fun to see them think of their brother and want to do something nice for him. After we left Primary's, we took the girls downtown. We took a very short tour of the conference center and some of the buildings in temple square. We were pretty early for the lights so we took TRAX (the girls are obsessed with the trains) to the gateway, ate a piece of pizza, and returned in time to walk through the lights on the way to the van. Chilling winds make me very grateful for our children's short attention spans! One quick swoop through temple square and they were good to go :)
