Ups and Downs

The older I get, the less I like rollar coasters. They were GREAT when I was younger, more carefree and my back didn't hurt.

Last night was a bummer night. John spoke with both the fellow and the surgeon and didn't get great news. They did an echo yesterday and said Ammon's valve is still leaking. The fellow (I cannot remember her name) told John if it didn't stop, or at least almost stop, leaking they won't do any more surgeries and he would be put on a transplant list. Transplant lists at this age are useless. The surgeon told him it was still too early to know and that the leak has improved some. He had told us previously that he thought they could do something for it in the second surgery, but it turns out, it has to be strong enough to even do a second surgery. I hate roller coasters. I called his nurse last night, Jean, who was happy-go-lucky until I asked her about the leaky valve. For the rest of the converdsation her response was a sullen, politically correct, "They will re-evaluate next week." A one size fits all answer. John spoke to our wonderful nurse, Carolyn this morning who told him the fellow had no right to make that assumption and she would find out the scoop today and let us know. She said A LOT of these kids have leaky valves and we shouldn't freak out yet. That would have been nice to hear last night.

Unless something weird happens, they are going to try to close his chest tomorrow - its kind of risky and they said a lot of times they have to re-open it if the baby doesn't handle it well. I'm nervous, but not too nervous. He has done wonderfully up until this point so I am going to go with that.

On a happy note - Allie was so cute this morning! I put in a Hula DVD that she loves while I got ready. She came running into the bathroom and said, "Mom! The lady on the movie said I need shells to do the pearly shells dance, but if I don't have them I can use spoons!" She was so excited so I told her to go get some spoons. I walked out of the bathroom to find her concentrating on the lady's instructions and moving her little arms around - so cute! She was answering the lady's questions and swinging those cute little hips - I should have made a video! Dang. I'm a little slow sometimes.

  1. I just took a minute to get caught up on everything and I have to say that I think Ammon is the perfect name. He seems like a very strong little boy for what he's endured. You guys are constantly in our prayers and we'll keep little Mason in our prayers as well. You have a beautiful son and we wish you all the best!
